When I added a dog applique to my sleep sacks, I went with a light blue -- since the light blue had received several "hearts" on etsy. But my almost seven year old suggested to me that the dog could be red. I thought it was a great idea but how good certainly surprised me! I loved how the red stood out on the royal blue fleece fabric I use. But then, it was the best seller at a trade fair recently, my light blue dog didn't even seem to get much of a glance (though I did get an order for it afterwards!)
Definitely it pays to listen to the young in our midst!
Also, the long sleeve sleep sacks have been added to Love and Comfort's design lineup.

Wind's a blowing
Just delivered three baby sleep sacks to two happy Moms. I love making these sleep sacks! I love coming up with new designs for the applique and the happy response from the Moms on seeing their new sleep sacks.
For lack of a photo, I'm attaching one of the two light blue sleep sacks that sold quickly at the Millarville Market. More colours since then. One Dad asked if I would make a cat applique. Ended up doing a cat's face -- and it had to be smiling. I wasn't totally satisfied with it -- so gave them a discount. The parents, fortunately, were pleased with the cat and sleep sack -- and the discount!!
I'm challenged by photography in promoting my work -- one of you TOLD me I would do better with an SLR and you were right. I can't get the clarity with my current camera and how I miss my 35 mm Nikkon of a by-gone era.
Our weekend at Millarville went well and just to finish things off well, a huge wind storm came up and...it took days to get rid of all the dust on us and our belongings!!! More wind today -- but at least we've enough snow on the ground to avoid dust. Ironically, we had roofers re-doing our roof yesterday (insurance claim after a July hailstorm). They worked well into the dark but haven't been able to come back because of the wind. So we make sure we check the driveway for nails before backing out vehicles.
Ahh, the wind's a blowing and the changes its brought are....delightful!

New sleep sack design
Thank you to Chelsea and Baby Capri for testing out the new baby sleep sack. This was designed with the helpful feedback from Moms of babies. Capri and Chelsea enjoyed this sack so much they're keeping it. And now the new ones are under construction: some deep pink like this one as well as green and blue. All have applique designs on the front. They are constructed with safe fleece fabric, a zipper that can open from the top or bottom (for diaper changes).
The new sleep sacks will be available at the Love and Comfort booth at Millarville Christmas Market Nov. 11-13th and then afterwards on my etsy shop and facebook page.

Thanks for the feedback!
Received very helpful feedback
through the Mothers Opposed to Boredom facebook page on yesterday's query about Mom's preferences for baby sleep sacks. Thank you! Looks like 40
per cent like sleeves, 60 per cent prefer sleeveless. So I'll work at
the two options with very soft, warm fabric (of course!) and a two-way
zip.

What would you like in a baby sleep sack?

| Long-sleeve sleep sack for 12 to 15 lb. child |
Tell me about your most favourite sleep sack for your baby and what you'd buy in the future or would recommend to a friend or relative.
I would like to design sleep sacks that fit a mother's needs and concerns for their baby and toddler.
As I've looked at some sites that offer baby sleep sacks, all are sleeveless. There seems to be some concern that if a baby slips down inside the sleep sack as they sleep, they will still get fresh air coming through the armholes. One site raised the concern that there is a 'possible' link between carbon monoxide and SIDS.
Interesting. Because the long-sleeve ones I make are sized to gently fit at the child's neck so they can't slip down within the sack. As a Mom, I ditched the sleeveless ones for my daughter in the winter. Living in the Calgary area near the mountains, our nights get cold and I wanted her arms to also be warm. She stayed warm and safe.
A new Grandma of a preemie boy told me her grandson has a sleep sack but he slips down inside it. Yes, he would -- because he was in a sleep sack for an 8 to 12 pound baby and not one for his 5.5 lbs. You want a sleep sack that will fit at the child's neck and I can make that.
That said, however, what kind of baby sleep sack would YOU buy? Would you prefer sleeveless?
So looking forward to hearing your comments, insights and preferences. Thank you for reading.
